The NEC Brings SURFEXPlus To The Midlands After 25 Years In The North

The UK's largest and most comprehensive exhibition for the surface coatings, printing inks, adhesives, corrosion and construction chemicals industries, SURFEXPlus, is relocating to The NEC Birmingham.

SURFEX in its current form has been at Harrogate (or Manchester) every other year since 1986. After conducting an in depth exhibitor survey, SURFEX Limited - organisers of the exhibition - listened to its customers' feedback and realised it was time to change.

Chris Pacey-Day FTSC, Company Secretary, SURFEX Limited, said: "We're delighted to be working with The NEC team. Their support and desire, throughout various departments, to work with us, helping to develop the event has been a major deciding factor in the relocation.

"Not only are we changing the location but also the entire look and feel of the show. So, as well as The NEC venue enabling us to house all our exhibitors together within one space, the capabilities and expertise of their in-house teams, from design to marketing and insight (The NEC Group's in-house research team), means we can really give the show a facelift and take it to the next level, attracting more visitors and exhibitors, and ultimately improving the experience for all.

"Another key consideration in the move was location - The NEC has a perfect central UK location -this supported by the surrounding infrastructure, with physical connections to Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International Train Station means it couldn't be easier for people to get to us, whether they're coming from all four corners of Britain or even from overseas. We now look forward to a really exciting new event in its new Birmingham home."

Chris Hartley, Head of New Business, The NEC Group said: "At a time where the show's going to see big changes, we're thrilled that SURFEX Limited has chosen The NEC as their partner.

"It is not just about providing a space anymore. The NEC team work in collaboration with many clients, including trade associations, member organisations and corporates, supporting them across various elements of a show's planning and execution."

For SURFEX Limited The NEC Group's digital team will be re-vamping the show branding with a new logo, looking at suggested colourways, fonts and creative images, as well as producing a style guide for third party suppliers with royalty free stock images, plus they'll be introducing a new website and creating a social media presence.

Insight, the Group's in-house research team, is able to provide vital data including drive time research with attendees and pre-registration information of non attendees, helping SURFEX really understand some of the reasoning behind why invitees do and don't attend, in turn, helping them to make intelligent decisions for the marketing of the event.

With the expertise and experience of Managed Events - The NEC Group's in-house organising arm, who also work with external clients - SURFEX has chosen them to handle all the marketing for the event.

Hartley added: "We are now really looking forward to a long lasting partnership with SURFEX Limited and, together, delivering what's anticipated to be a superb event."

SURFEXPlus will be held at The NEC in Birmingham on 29th and 30th May 2012. SURFEXPlus is organised by SURFEX Limited on behalf of the Oil and Colour Chemists' Association (OCCA). Profits from SURFEXPlus will be applied to promote education and training in coatings technology.
