Alkaline-based Activator

The C-12 Activator is a well-established alkaline-based product formulated with special wetting agents. It is well suited for gold, silver, chrome, nickel, and copper and paint applications over steel, nickel, copper, ceramic, glass, plastics, Kovar, and other metal surfaces.

According to the manufacturer, this product allows users to plate nickel over nickel, gold over nickel, and chrome over chrome, or chrome skip and chrome miss, with a perfect bond and 100% adhesion. The activator can also be used between copper and nickel, nickel and gold, nickel and chrome, to eliminate passivation or lamination on these alloys.

The manufacturer also states that the activator increases the throwing power at the low-density area when plating gold over nickel and when activating nickel, chrome, or gold. In addition, rather than stripping metals, users of the activator can simply replate nickel or chrome surfaces if they are not peeling or burned

When activating chrome over chrome, users should not use acid in the activator solution.
