The Series 1500, Model W/R 412-3 is a two-chamber reel coater that deposits metal or alloys on wire or ribbon substrates by sputtering from magnetron targets arranged in a closely spaced book array. Capacity is based upon 4-in. ID x 12-in. OD x 3-in. wide wire/ribbon spools. Wire measuring up to 0.035-in. diameter may be coated at speeds between two and 40 fpm depending on the coating thickness desired.

Constant wire speed and tension are computer-controlled in conjunction with other parameters that enable unattended operation for extended periods. A second provides plasma precleaning prior to entering the sputter zone through a conductance limiting tube that allows different gas compositions and pressures for cleaning and coating.
