The Retec Separated Chrome Recovery (SCR) System is a combination of a specially designed electrochemical cell, a transformer/rectifier and a clarifier. The system recovers chromic acid by circulating chrome bearing rinsewater through the polyvinylchroide (PVC) cell. The recovered chromic acid can then be returned to the plating tank. The company says that the ions of tramp metals in the rinsewater are reduced to metal or are converted to their respective hydroxides at the cathode. Trivalent chrome ions are converted to the hydroxide. These metal oxides are separated from the treated rinsewater in the clarifier and the newly cleaned rinsewater is then returned to the process rinse system.

The cell is made from PVC and features a CPVC anode chamber, copper bus bars, reinforced cell sidewalls and PVC fittings. The high-performance separators using the company's Elramix diaphragms.
