TRU-PLATE Liquid Accelerator 8401-L is a liquid plating accelerator specifically designed to assist in plating the surface of ferrous metal parts that have been prepared for mechanical plating. The prior steps are a surface preparation treatment followed by a copper flash coating without any intervening rinsing. The ensuing steps are multiple additions of the plating metal to be used.

The accelerator is intended to assist in the plating of zinc, cadmium, tin, and co-deposits of these metals and will produce a dense, adherent, and bright coat ranging in thickness from 0.0002- to o.0010-in. It is also intended for use in conjunction with other TRU-PLATE brand chemistry. According to the manufacturer, the contents of each chemical are essential to the successful practice of mechanical plating.

The first step in the sequence of operation is that parts are rotated in the barrel after the surface preparation and copper flash coating portions of the operation are complete. The accelerator is then added to the load. After a 3-min. tumbling to mix the accelerator in the load, the predetermined amount of zinc is added. The barrel continues to turn for 4- to 5-min. while tin flash deposits over the copper coating. The parts are then ready for subsequent zinc additions.
