PPG To Debut Anti-Fingerprint Coating At SID Display Week 2018

New product features enhanced cleanability, improved wear durability, silky feel

PPG recently announced that it will unveil a spray-on anti-fingerprint coating and showcase its full line of advanced transparent and conductive coatings for display glass and plastic substrates at the Society for Information (SID) Display Week 2018. The event will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, May 22-24.

The new anti-fingerprint coating features a patent-pending alkoxy-silane formula developed exclusively by PPG. The proprietary material equips touchscreens with hydrophilic (water-absorbing) and hydrophobic (water-repelling) properties, which result in greater adhesion for better durability and low water- and oil-contact angles for enhanced fingerprint hiding.

The coating has a unique silk-like feel that creates a more pleasant tactile experience for users of smartphones, tablets and other shared devices. It also makes such products easier to clean and maintain.

”The development of enhanced anti-fingerprint functionality is critical as the use of shared devices expands,” said Dave Malobicky, PPG general manager, electronic materials, and commercial director, mobility. “PPG continues to advance innovations in coatings for electronic materials that are cost-effective yet demonstrate major advances in cleanability, durability and performance.”

In addition to its full range of transparent and conductive coatings for display glass and touchscreens, PPG will highlight its anti-smudge, anti-glare, anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint coatings at SID Display Week 2018. The company also will exhibit spray-applied coatings for electromagnetic, radio-frequency and electrostatic discharge protection, as well as lightning-guard coatings.

PPG display coatings are used by leading manufacturers of consumer electronics, airplanes, automobiles, military vehicles and equipment.

SID Display Week is the premier international event for the electronic display industry, drawing more than 7,000 electronic display design, development, and engineering purchase decision-makers from world-leading companies and end-users across the value chain.
