Case History: After Comparing All The Different Chrome Purification Systems, Boomsnub Corporation Turned To Eco-Tec For A Solution

With large volumes of highly contaminated chrome running through their systems each day, only Eco-Tec could provide Boomsnub with the purification system they needed.

Boomsnub Corporation, based in Vancouver, Washington has been in the business of hard chrome plating and grinding since the 1950s. Like its name implies, the company began business to manufacture boomsnubs, a hydraulic safety device fitted onto old-style cranes. Since that time, Boomsnub has evolved into a major corporation that services, plates, and repairs chrome products for customers in the paper, printing, and nuclear industries.

Several years ago, Boomsnub began an expansion effort that saw it build a brand new facility. At the time of construction, however, the company was under a lot of scrutiny to ensure their operations would comply with environmental standards. As part of its solution, Boomsnub built a closed-loop system for its plating tanks, to minimize hazardous chemical emissions. The problem with the system, however, was that because it reused all the water, metallic contaminants began to build up surprisingly quick. The concern was that these contaminants could lead to future product quality problems if not addressed.

The only way to maintain product quality and control costs was to continuously clean out the tanks. To do that, Boomsnub at first relied on porous pots, which required daily cleaning and maintenance in addition to using up valuable space in the plating tank. They also incurred quite an energy drain, as a high level of electrical power was required for operation. So it was that Boomsnub decided to seek alternate solutions to its metal build-up problems.
