Arvin Roll Coater achieves ISO 14001 certification

Arvin, Inc. (Columbus, IN) announced that its Roll Coater division (Arvin Roll Coater) has successfully achieved ISO 14001 certification at its Weirton, WV, U.S.A. plant. The company believes this is the first ISO 14001 certification awarded to a metal coil coater in North America. Arvin Purolator (manufacturer of Purolator filters for automotive applications) achieved ISO 14001 certification last year.

ISO 14001 certification requires the creation and documented execution of comprehensive environmental management systems (EMS) aimed at compliance and improved environmental performance. An independent auditor must verify that an organization has implemented a functional EMS that meets all of the requirements of the International Standard. The Arvin Roll Coater Weirton plant was audited by the ISO certifying firm, Environmental Resources Management Certification and Verification Services. In the future, many manufacturing firms will find it beneficial to achieve this type of certification, much like achieving ISO 9000 certification is the norm today.

ARC, a prepainted and aluminum coil coater, operates six coating lines, five slitters, two stand-alone embossers, four in-line tension levelers and laminating machines. Serving the appliance, automotive, HVAC, construction, lighting and many other industries, this division of Arvin, Inc. finishes components such as heating and air conditioning panels and provides corrosion-protection coatings for automotive body panels. The ISO 9002-certified facility is capable of coating coils up to 30 tons and painting coils up to 72-in wide. Their on-line color monitoring and surface inspection capabilities help ensure quality parts.
