Contact-free Measuring of Length and Speed

The VLM 200 instrument is designed to measure the speed and length of moving objects without contact
The VLM 200 instrument is designed to measure the speed and length of moving objects without contact. The manufacturer states that measurements can be made just as precisely on the periodic structures of textiles as on the stochastic surfaces of metals, wood, rubber or paper. It is also well suited for most other material measures in strips, plates, foils, profiles, belts, pipes, wire, and cables.

The instrument is designed to operate autonomously—sensor, light source, signal processing and power supply are all integrated in the unit. Via its digital or analog interfaces, the instrument can be hooked up to existing processes, drives, or data acquisition. In addition, the device features a rugged sensor that is unaffected by environmental contamination.

Depending on configuration, the instrument has a speed measuring range of up to 3,000 m/min (±9,850 ft/min), a measuring deviation as per DIN 1319 of 0.1%, and temperature range of 0° to 50°C (32° to 122°F). Applications also include cutting, positioning, localizing, monitoring, quality maintenance, and dosing.
