Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM), global supplier of flexible cylinder hones and industrial brushes, announces on-line resources about Diamond Flex-Hone® toolsfor inner diameter (ID) surface finishing, burr removal, and edge blending of hard materials. Product video and technical article describe features of flexible diamond hones, benefits of BRM’s diamond abrasive, and product specifications and use.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) - Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM), American-owned supplier of a full line of surface finishing solutions, is announcing a product video and technical article about Diamond Flex-Hone® tools. Made with resin-bonded diamond abrasive crystals, these flexible cylinder hones are ideal for inner diameter (ID) applications involving machined components made of hard materials.

Flexible honing is a low-pressure, low-temperature abrading process that removes burrs, blends edges, and improves surface finish. With Diamond Flex-Hone® tools, the nickel-coated abrasive promotes heat dissipation and bond retention. By conforming closely to part contours, BRM’s diamond honing tools help manufacturers and machinists to achieve tight tolerances and prevent part misalignments.

Surface Finish Improvement
As BRM’s product video explains, Diamond Flex-Hone® tools eliminate stress risers and blend edges for smooth, radiused edge transitions. By improving hole quality and removing microburrs, these flexible diamond hones also help to prevent stress corrosion cracks and damage to the part. By improving surface quality without heavy-duty material removal, the tool leaves the base material undisturbed.

Diamond Flex-Hone® technology can be used with handheld power tools or production machinery. Built with a rigid, twisted wire metal steam, these deburring and surface finishing tools can be chucked in an electric drill or mounted in a CNC machining center. By automating operations, part manufacturers can reduce labor costs, optimize machine cycle times, and promote surface finish consistency.

Tool Sizes and Applications
As BRM’s technical article explains, Diamond Flex-Hone® tools are available in stocked sizes ranging from 4-mm (0.157-in) to 20-mm (0.787-in), and by special order from 22-mm (0.875-in) to 38-mm (1.5-in). Diamond hones are available in three mesh sizes: 170/200, 800, and 2500. If a part’s surface requires significant improvement, start with a lower-grit Diamond Flex-Hone® and then use one or more higher-grit tools.

In addition to medical applications, flexible diamond hones are used in the aerospace industry. Examples include through-hole edge rounding in aircraft engine components, chamfer blending on rotating engine parts, and removing stress risers and polishing holes for landing gear equipment, surface finishing helicopter rotor drive shafts, and deburring the bearing surfaces of hydraulic swivel components.
