Houghton Offers Thermadep One-Step, Water-Based Protective Coating Process For Metal Parts

Valley Forge, PA - Through a marketing partnership with Egyptian Coating Co., Houghton International Inc. now offers the ThermadepSM patented, one-step, water-based coating process for metal products that require short-term rust protection, coloring or other aesthetic properties. Thermadep protective coatings — available clear and in a variety of colors — are applied by dipping heated parts into a bath of low-VOC, water-based polymer solution.

The Thermadep process can replace other labor intensive finishing processes such as oiling, painting and plating that use hazardous materials and require waste processing. Thermadep coatings are effective for protecting castings, forgings and other heat-treated parts made of any metal substrate, including steel, iron, aluminum, brass and bronze. Parts coated with the Thermadep process are ready for immediate shipment, so they are ideal for metal parts that require protection for shipping and extended storage.

Thermadep coatings also can be used as a solid film lubrication for fasteners and bearings, a primer and undercoating for metal products, or coating on metal components for processing, drawing or stamping.

"Thermadep is becoming the go-to product for coating applications," said Hank Limper, product manager for Houghton International. "Companies adding the Thermadep process to the end of their manufacturing line can save over the cost of conventional coating and plating methods."
