Indalex Aluminum Solutions Expands North American Presence with Acquisition of Columbia Pacific Aluminum
Indalex Aluminum Solutions (Toronto, ON, Canada), a wholly owned subsidiary of Caradon plc (Weybridge, England), has entered into an agreement to acquire Columbia Pacific Aluminum Corp. (Modesto & Watsonville, CA). As a result of the acquisition, Indalex will gain access to Columbia Pacific's aluminum extrusion plants in Modesto, Watsonville and City of Industry, CA, as well as an unused facility in Texas. Indalex as a whole will employ 4,600 people in 17 extrusion and six casting plants across North America.
Indalex will be poised to grow throughout North America through this acquisition. First, the company will gain complete coverage throughout North America, including the coveted Southwest. Second, Indalex will operate 42 presses at 17 extrusion plants, allowing increased capabilities in shorter lead times. Third, the company will have the resources to manufacture more fabricated parts. In addition, Indalex will be capable of completing finishing operations quickly with 11 paint lines, two to five anodizing facilities, and the addition of a bright dip capability.
The acquisition will also benefit Indalex's Indalloy business also located in Toronto. The company has plans to build a 175 million pound casting facility to increase the production of secondary billet. Additionally, casting capabilities will be increased with the addition of Columbia Pacific's casting houses in City of Industry and Texas, bringing the total number of casting facilities to six.
As a result of the Columbia Pacific acquisition, Indalex has realigned its North American operations. The company will have four business units focusing on aluminum extrusions plus the Indalloy business. They will move their headquarters to Chicago, IL, in June.
