Mist and Fume Suppressants

MacDermid Incorporatedy offers a variety of mist and fume suppressants for decorative coating operations that meet current chromium emission limits.

Proquel 2000 is a liquid surfactant used for reducing surface tension that produces a stable foam blanket in hard and decorative chromium plating applications. The manufacturer states that 40 mls per gallon reduces surfaces tension from 60 dynes/cm to 40 dynes/cm.

Proquel B is a highly concentrated liquid that produces a 1-in. foam blanket and does not affect sulfate ration. The liquid can be used for hard chrome plating applications and features a 2-oz/1,000-gal makeup.

ProTab 1000 offers a combination of surface-active materials in a tablet form. According to the manufacturer, the tabs lower the surface tension of chromic acid solutions while maintaining stability. The manufacturer also states that a 0.3- to 0.5-lb/100-gal makeup lowers surface tension to 35 to 40 dynes/cm and, in anodizing solutions, a 1.0- to 1.5-lb/1,000-gal makeup is adequate to obtain mist suppression and to lower surface tension.

Finally, Proquel 1299 NF is a permanent fume suppressant consumed by drag-out that reduces surface tension, but does not produce a foam blanket. The manufacturer states that a 20 pints/1,000-gal makeup reduces surface tension to 45 dynes/cm.
