New Abrasive Discs for Automotive and Composite Applications

WORCESTER, Mass., Aug 15, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Norton Abrasives has introduced PureSand A255 stearate-free abrasive discs.

The new non-stearated PureSand A255 discs last two to three times longer than conventional non-stearated discs. The automotive and composite material manufacturers that have evaluated PureSand discs have generated productivity rates similar to that of stearated discs, while producing the defect and contamination-free surfaces of non-stearated discs.

Stearated products have a higher risk of lowering the surface energy of the paint, negatively affecting the appearance or the adhesion of subsequent layers. PureSand A255 discs do not significantly affect the surface energy of the paint, reducing appearance and adhesion concerns.

PureSand A255 discs are available in 5" diameters with Speed-Grip(R) hook and loop backing with and without vacuum holes. Norton PureSand discs have been evaluated for surface roughness (Rz) by an accredited independent laboratory. Both hand and machine conditions were evaluated in the labs and passed all surface roughness tests for E-Coat and Primer surfaces.
