Surface Technology, Inc. NF coating process is designed to allow metal finishers to apply coatings several mils in thickness without the pits or other imperfections typically encountered in standard thick coatings. The process can be applied to several electroless and electrolytic plating methods, and utilizes inexpensive chemicals that act as "catalysts" but are not consumed during the plating process.
The manufacturer states that this process offers functional advantages that include increased lifetime of coated articles due to greater thickness than conventional plating processes, coatings devoid of pits, and enhanced corrosion resistance. The manufacturer also states that the process can provide cosmetic advantages including minimization or complete correction of pre-existing defects in the base material, including pits and scratches.
