Sail Mast Manufacturer is First Customer for Metalast Pay Per Service Fee Schedule
METALAST International, Inc. (Minden, NV) has introduced a Pay Per Service Fee Schedule for manufacturers that wish to hire the company as a consulting partner. The Pay Per Service Fee Schedule allows manufacturers to submit samples to Metalast's Tech Center in order to prove that anodizing light metals successfully is indeed possible. The schedule is part of an initiative with the company's Consulting Agreement (MCA) and remote METALForums, to reach many more manufacturers. A considerable phone campaign has been launched to draw more customers.
The schedule is also designed to serve as a revenue source as well as to provide potential customers with proof of the company's capabilities. The Metalast sales and marketing team set a goal to contact more than 100 qualified manufacturers per day, more than 2,500 total per month, and to have these companies submit samples to Metalast's Tech Center for processing. Thus far, the company reports, they have done pretty well.
The first company to become a Metalast Pay Per Service Fee Schedule customer is Omohundro Company, also of Minden, NV. Omohundro is a world-class manufacturer of high-end racing yacht masts, including those on America's Cup contender America True. The company started out just over 50 years ago as a manufacturer of composite structures for the aerospace industry, eventually venturing into carbon manufacture. The supplier of radomes to the aerospace and marine markets entered into the yacht mast-making industry in a joint venture with the Sparcraft Company. The team was charged with building the spars for the 1992 America's Cup entry. Eventually, Omohundro spun out on its own.
Omohundro currently manufactures masts made from carbon fiber composite, a material that is lighter but stronger than aluminum. The majority of the mast components to be anodized are made of 6061-T6 aluminum and are used to secure the mast to the deck of the yacht.
Dissatisfied with a regional anodizer's efforts, Omohundro turned to Metalast. The samples sent to the Tech Center had to be able to resist salt air and water under the most severe conditions, while ensuring the mast is still mobile. The Tech Center anodized the sample parts in a Type III hardcoat environment. Omohundro has been pleased and has decided to continue to send parts on a bi-weekly basis.
Metalast now offers its anodizing service to customers in three options:
Metalast Licensee – A job shop that has signed a licensed agreement and has had the Metalast Process Control system installed at the facility. The Licensee is also entitled to use Metalast's Tech Support and R&D services.
Metalast Consulting Agreement Client – A manufacturer that pays Metalast an annual retainer of $25,000, entitling them to $25,000 towards the full use of the company's technical products and services on a priority basis billed at 25% discount from current pricing.
Metalast Customer – A manufacturer that hires Metalast on a consulting basis on a "pay as you incur the service basis." The manufacturer bills at the current published rate without a discount.
Metalast is fortunate enough to be host to a world-class technical center staffed by a team of research scientists, engineers and industry professionals.
