Case History: Since Dresser Oil Tools Installed Its Eco-Tec Chrome Purification System, Its Operation Has Been Flawless

When chrome loss and tank contaminants began to overwhelm Dresser's staff, they turned directly to Eco-Tec for a quick, affordable solution.

Dresser Oil Tools traces its roots back to 1892, when two brothers, Gus and Charles Axelson, opened their first iron works plant in California with a $1,200 investment. Since that time, Dresser has evolved into a multi-million dollar corporation serving the production, pipeline, and processing industries around the world. More than 25 years of experience in hard chrome plating of solid bar and hollow round stock exists at its state-of-the-art Chrome Plating Facility located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. With over 40 full time employees, the plant primarily serves the needs of the crude oil production industry and ranks both Shell Oil and Texaco Oil among its customers.

However, after many years of specializing in the manufacture of surface oil pumps, Dresser Oil Tools began to experience a problem. The performance of its chrome plating baths began to deteriorate as metal contaminants built up in the solution. In fact, the presence of these bath impurities became so severe that its tanks built up contaminated chromic acid that would have to be waste treated – a process that is both very costly and potentially dangerous.

Not only was this contamination significantly affecting its raw material costs, but it was also affecting plating quality and production time. The time had come to find a practical chemical purification solution.
