Syensqo Accelerates The Shift Toward Safer, High-Performance Coatings At The 2026 American Coatings Show

From alternatives to fluorosurfactants to universal dispersants, Syensqo enables regulatory-ready formulations and durable performance

Syensqo will showcase a new generation of solutions at the 2026 American Coatings Show (ACS), highlighting innovations designed to support the evolving needs of the coatings industry. Developed to advance regulatory compliance and high-performance standards, Syensqo’s latest innovations help formulators meet growing demand for safer, more sustainable and durable coatings.

Eliminating substances of concern
Syensqo is at the forefront of helping formulators eliminate substances of concern without compromising performance. Key highlights on display at ACS include:

  • Fluorosurfactants replacement: Syensqo is introducing a new alternative to fluorosurfactants for emulsion polymerization1, alongside Rhodoline HBR—a specialty additive designed to replace fluorosurfactants in waterborne paint formulations while providing early hot-block resistance².
  • Solutions to eliminate APEs and reduce VOCs: In line with evolving formulation standards and customer sustainability goals, Syensqo continues to advance the shift away from alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs) with its APE-free Abex specialty emulsifiers and Rhodasurf nonionic surfactants. Additionally, to help formulators reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) content and address the phase-out of glycols, Syensqo offers Rhodoline OTE 600 for open-time extension and Rhodoline FT 100 for freeze-thaw stability.
  • Green solvents: As regulatory scrutiny and safety expectations around solvents intensify, Syensqo is enabling safer formulation choices through the Rhodiasolv range, which consists of eco-friendly solvent alternatives to traditional chlorinated or high-VOC solvents.

Advancing performance: From next-level durability to streamlined formulation
Syensqo is setting new performance benchmarks through innovations that enhance durability and operational efficiency.

  • Corrosion & adhesion: In emulsion polymers, Sipomer MAC specialty monomer delivers up to C3/C4 corrosion protection, while Reactsurf 2490, a reactive surfactant, significantly enhances water resistance. Beyond these solutions, Syensqo’s extensive Sipomer portfolio includes specialty monomers designed to improve adhesion and water resistance across a wide range of substrates and application conditions. In direct-to-metal applications, Syensqo’s Addibond 106 additive boosts adhesion and corrosion resistance in coating formulations.
  • Streamlined formulation: Syensqo’s next-generation Rhodoline 7500 polymeric dispersant3 delivers universal compatibility across inorganic, organic and carbon black pigments in waterborne systems, helping formulators simplify development, optimize costs and maintain long-term storage stability.

1 Emulsion polymerization is a type of free-radical polymerization that occurs in an oil-in-water emulsion, creating a stable, waterborne dispersion of polymer particles (latex).

2 Hot-block resistance is the ability of a newly painted surface to resist sticking to itself or another surface when subjected to heat, pressure and humidity without causing damage.

3 A dispersant is a chemical substance, typically a surfactant, used to break up, stabilize and prevent the clumping of solid or liquid particles within a medium like water, oil or paint.
