Zinc/Aluminum Epoxy Coatings
The manufacturer states that when applied over zinc plating or a zinc-rich primer base coat, the finish exhibits very good adhesion and has the effect of passivating the zinc substrate. When applied over zinc substrates, coated products withstand more than 1,000 hr of salt spray exposure without red or white corrosion products normally found after 72 hours. Because zinc-rich epoxy coatings contain a high amount of aluminum and zinc, the finish also qualifies as a galvanic or sacrificial coating for use against aluminum and other less noble metal in bi-metallic joint assemblies.
Zinc-rich organic coatings contain products that provide integral lubrication. When applied over a plated surface or zinc-rich primer, the zinc/aluminum epoxy coating exhibits extremely predictable torque/tension characteristics. This is beneficial in applications where tension must be tightly controlled. It also ensures repeatable performance when components are assembled at multiple locations.
